Equine Assisted Therapy

Introduction Evening

Evergreen, Colorado

Wednesday, August 5th 6 pm – 8 pm

Let us take you on a journey into the world of personal growth!

Learn how to:

·         Access and express the power within you

·         Understand how you communicate with others

·         Say what you mean and mean what you say

Animal Assisted therapies have been around for a long time. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) was developed in the early 1990’s.  The theory behind EAP is that the normal defenses and barriers which might hamper many forms of conventional therapy dissolve in the straightforward, nonverbal interaction with horses.  Horses are a natural choice for therapy as they are the ONLY animal which will mirror a human’s emotions 100%.

The EAP team consists of trained therapist, a trained horse specialist, and a horse. The team works with the emotional response evoked by the animal-human interaction. Unlike a typical office therapy session, in an EAP session, core issues quickly rise to the surface to be resolved. For example, fear, an appropriate response to a 1000 pound animal, presents an experiential opportunity to learn effective ways to maintain safety, set personal boundaries and be assertive. Under the guidance of the team, the client experiments with ways to deal with the fear. The way the horse responds directly and clearly to the client’s actions provides instant feedback about what works and what doesn’t. What results is a therapy in which the client can immediately experience the benefits of making changes. The insights gained through this work translate into practical life skills.

When joining the group you will:

Ø      Enjoy an interactive conversation with a horse and how that applies to your human conversations.

Ø      Learn the horse’s perspectives on situations, behaviors, and life knowledge and how you can apply this knowledge to your own situations and reactions.

Ø      Discover the profound way you are in the world.

Ø      Greatly enhance your relationship with one another and bring great joy and happiness into your life.
